It's a sad day in the world of comedy as one of the greatest of all time has died. George Carlin was 71 years old and thought of as a counter culture icon throughout his career. This Associated Press article has more.
I saw Carlin live once and he left me rolling in the aisle days after his performance. Just a few short years ago he came to Copperfield's Books in Petaluma to sign his new book "When Will Jesus Bring the Porkchops".
He said what he felt, when he wanted! He left nothing held back. He was a fighter for free speech and was most famous when he talked about the "seven words you can never say on television".
While his constant repeating of the "seven dirty words" caused a sensation in America and prompted a lawsuit that eventually made it to the Supreme Court, his intention was not just for pure shock value. His intention was to question our irrational fear of language and being politically correct.
A great talent who will be surely missed by all. He spoke his mind and was never afraid to be judged. George Carlin, you will be missed!
