Move Over Hank, Here Comes Barry!

Being back in the Bay Area has given me the opportunity to witness history first hand. For the last three to four years, I have been bashing Barry Bonds left and right. But as the inevitable approaches, its really starting to hit everyone. Hank Aaron's record is going to fall. It is going to happen.

Whether steroids played a part in it, we may never know. The courts may decide things shortly, but for this brief moment in time, its time to celebrate this accomplishment. Hitting 755, 756, however many home runs he hits, it is still an amazing feat. Its true that Alex Rodriguez may someday surpass Ruth, Aaron and Bonds, but for this brief moment in time, this is Barry stage, and we are merely witness'.

I will be at AT&T Park on Wednesday night, and whether Barry hits a milestone home run that night, it will still be exciting to be in the company of greatness! *let's hope he hits it that night though :)*

Wrestler Chris Benoit Kills Wife, Son, and Self

After being a wrestling fan since I was 5 years old, growing up watching NWA, WCW and WWF/WWE, I am shock this morning hearing the real life drama that occurred over the weekend. According to the Associated Press, Professional wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room.

Investigators believe Benoit killed his wife Nancy, and son Daniel during the weekend and then himself Monday. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three separate rooms of the house. Authorities declined to say whether drugs or steroids were found inside the house.

I can remember taking my brothers to see Benoit, and other stars, live at house shows, Monday night shows and Pay-Per-Views. Also, I have the fond memories of Phi Delt night in the dorms, and at the Phi Delta Theta house, where we would gather and enjoy watching the event, and re living our youth. Seeing him wrestle the likes of Dean Malenko, Eddy Guerrero, Chris Jericho, it is hard to believe that his life would take such a sad turn of events over the weekend.

Reports say that he was scheduled to win the ECW Championship at the Vengeance Pay-Per-View just two nights ago, but Benoit did not show up at the event, citing "family problems". If only anyone knew how serious those problems were.

Last night the WWE did a tribute show to Chris Benoit. After hearing more about what happened, I'm not so sure a tribute is in order. One has to think that something must have gone wrong, or happened to cause this. Benoit always seemed like a "family man" who would do anything for them. In the coming days I'm sure that we will learn more. My condolences go out to the extended family and friends who are just as shocked right now as I am.

The World's Ugliest Dog!!!

Only in Petaluma, CA can you find the annual "World's Ugliest Dog Contest". The competition that separates the beautiful, from the hideous.

This year's winner, owned by Karen Quigley, is Elwood.

Elwood has distinguishable bug eyes, a very noticeable Mohawk, thick, rough skin and only two strands of hair on his tail.

For the entire day he was one of the crowd favorites, and attendees at the Sonoma-Marin Fair chanted his name as he breezed through each division of the pageant.

In the "Ring of Champions", Elwood unseated Archie, last year's champion.

Quite an achievement it is to be named "The World's Ugliest Dog". Many times I have thought of entering my pets, but alas, they were too cute to win this competition. Now hopefully we will once again see this year's competition TV, so once again, Petaluma can get right back in the spotlight it so richly deserves :)

The Greatest Hair Band Songs!!!!!

Ok, so last weekend I sat and was watching a few minutes of VH1's "Best of the 80's" countdown. Its amazing to think that when I was in elementary school *yes I'm showing my age* these were the biggest bands in the world. There were synthesizers, guitars and most of all, EVERYONE HAD HAIR, AND LOTS OF IT!!! These bands rocked, but they could also show their soft sides (as you have no doubt seen in those infomercials on late night television). But it got me to thinking, what are the best "hair band" songs of all time. No doubt everyone has their own opinion, and I'd like to voice mine. I've got my list below, so let me hear yours!!!!

If we're going ballads it goes like this:
5. Nobody's Fool- Cinderella
4. Sister Christian- Night Ranger
3. I Remember You- Skid Row
2. Love Bites- Def Leppard
1. Every Rose Has Its Thorn- Poison

Overall:
5. Talk Dirty to Me- Poison
4. We're Not Gonna Take It- Twisted Sister
3. 18 and Life- Skid Row (yes its probably considered a ballad too)
2. Kickstart My Heart- Motley Crue
1. Sweet Child O' Mine- Guns & Roses

Hard to keep off songs like: Round and Round, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Here I Go Again, Livin On A Prayer, Welcome to the Jungle etc...This could easily be a top 20 list for sure.

It's Almost All Star Time...

Being back in the Bay Area, I have been able to hear my fair share of All Star Game hype! The big game is coming to San Francisco this year and I for one am excited. No, I will not be at the game, and with a 2 year old and 2 week old, I might not even be able to watch the game, but this is probably still the best All Star game of the four major sports.

We all know that the Pro Bowl has become a joke, playing after the season in Hawaii each year, and that the NHL All Star game, well as ratings show, not many people are watching. The NBA All Star game is still exciting, but baseball has the longstanding tradition as the national pastime. Even with "rumors" of steroid use by some of the games greatest players of the past two decades, the fans are still coming out. Is this because we don't believe the rumors, or do we just not care?

Either way, baseball's best talent will be on display in just two weeks, right here in my own backyard! My brother in law will be there (lucky bastard) for this once in a lifetime event. If anyone has an extra ticket, and needs someone to go with them so the ticket won't go to waste, feel free to let me know!!! :)

A New Beginning...

A new beginning...well I hope that this is a little better than Star Wars Episode One! This is my first venture into the blogosphere. Here, you can read my thoughts on the world, specifically sports and entertainment. I hope that you all will stick around and leave a message/comment/rant. Whatever you want, its fair game here. I'll start the discussion, and who knows, maybe we'll finish, maybe we won't. See you all back here tomorrow with a little discussion on the upcoming All Star Game in San Francisco.
